  • I was one of the original ‘Weekend Juniors’ at Allington. I had just turned 16 and this was my first job. The branch hadn’t even opened and I remember signing my contract with Mr. Anderson (William Turnbull to give him his full name!) whilst the fitting out was still going on. I worked in the warehouse at first but then spent the next few years working in the Wines and Spirits department at the back of the shop. I am not sure that the 18+ years old restriction on being able to sell alcohol applied at that time…….I think!

  • I believe the stated opening date in 1993 to be incorrect. I am convinced I shopped at the branch in the late 1970s.

  • I am sure the branch opened in about 1970, as my parents moved to the area in 1966 and the Mid Kent Shopping Centre was built a few years afterwards on a former orchard.

  • Whilst only being a partner for 3 years, my wife and I have been Waitrose shoppers for 41 years. We were married on 25th March 1972 and lived in Poplar Grove, about half a mile from Allington Park. We used to walk to Waitrose to do our shopping and not having a car, carry it back. We left Maidstone in 1983 and moved to Newmarket when we also became John Lewis shoppers in Robert Sayle’ Cambridge. We now live near Lutterworth in leicestershire and continue to shop in both Waitrose and John lewis. I am currently RBP for Groups C & L.
