Guildford
Opened 5/11/2015
After 42 years, and a relocation of 150 yards away from it’s former site, Waitrose has once again returned to Guildford.
Branch Manager, Ken Storr, watched as nine former Partners from the previous Guildford branch opened the new branch on Thursday 5th November. Amongst them was Joyce Russell, one of the first employees from Guildford in 1963, Gerry Keilher, first BM and David Gumm who took over from Gerry in 1966 and remained as a Partner for 34 years.
The 21,000 sq ft branch offers customers parking for 160 cars, meat, fish and deli counters, a bakery with an eat-in area, a rotisserie and an extensive wine department which includes tasting tables and spittoons.
The branch has created 200+ jobs, many from the local area, and received 1,225 job applications in the first two weeks of advertising.
