Volunteers at Ely

Our Ely branch has been busy volunteering at a range of different local initatives, with Partners helping with the local foodbank, sprucing up the Jubilee Gardens and reading the local news for blind and partially-sighted listeners.

Partner Volunteering at the foodbank by collecting food that local primary schools donated as part of their Harvest Festival celebrations and then helping date and sort it.  They also handed foodbank shopping lists out when Ely Foodbank came to the branch.

In September, green-fingered Partners helped get the Jubilee Garden into shape for the Paralympic Flame’s visit, and they volunteered with the charity Helping Hands Gardening Scheme, tidying the gardens of local people who can no longer look after them.

Reading the news, helped give listeners independence – as family and friends did not need to read the local news to them – as well as information on what was going on in their local community.
