Shaping the future
John Lewis and Waitrose are shaping the future together in Ipswich, Suffolk, by opening two linked shops under the same roof. As well as sharing a main entrance, the two shops share a customer café, run by Waitrose on the first floor alongside John Lewis’s assortment.
Waitrose shop offers a full food assortment, plus extended non-food including toys, jewellery and a cooking and dining range to complement the offer next door.
Ipswich is a key location for both divisions: the branches are easily accessible both from the city centre and surrounding villages, and Waitrose already has several branches in the county.
On opening day, customers queued outside – some with trolleys at the ready – from 8am. Customer Goldie Williamson said she had been looking forward to both shops opening in Ipswich. “I’ve been into both John Lewis and Waitrose today, and I really like them both,” she said. “I’ve been waiting for a Waitrose to open closer to home, as our nearest one was the Little Waitrose in Ipswich city centre, and I had to go to Norwich, Cambridge or London for John Lewis.”
