I'm sure that this branch was 140 all the time I was Group G staff manager ('79 - '87). Remember John McLauchlan so well. Actually, they were originally Group A but transferred to Tony O'Sullivan around 1984?

Andover opened as 140 and then took Milton Keynes original 168 number in 1990 on relocation. MK relocated as 115 in 1988 thereby releasing 168. Re-using old branch numbers was common at time after a 2 year gap to allow outstanding admin to be cleared from the system. In later years this time gap proved to be inadequate re-using old numbers was stopped in 1993 with Buckhurst Hill (102 was the original Epsom) and Holloway Road (112 was the original Banstead).
