Wantage 153

Wantage 153

Located just off the central Market, Waitrose Wantage opened its doors for the first customers on Tuesday 24th September 1974.

The branch has a selling space of 817 square metres (8,798 square feet) and has nine checkouts located at the front of the shop. There are 75 car parking spaces available for customer use.

The dining room and rest room on the first floor has wood panelling on the walls.

The selling floor and the pavement outside are both slightly lower than the level of the road. Heavy rains, on the Thursday before opening, caused 6 inches of water to enter the shop. Fortunately it was during the day and Partners were able to move cartons of stock off the floor and no damage resulted.

Branch Manager, Mr K Blake, had previously been manager at Waitrose Brighton since its opening in 1966.

The full address for this branch is 17 Wallingford Street, Wantage, Oxfordshire OX21 28BD.

  • Blimey! Three names below who all worked under me in the warehouse at Wantage. I still remember it fondly as I’ve always maintained that being Warehouse Manager at 153 was the best job I ever held in the Partnership – and I worked with JLP until retiring in 2017 after 43 years of service. Happy days.
