Design award for Waitrose

On Thursday 11 November, at the Royal Society of Art headquarters in London, the Duke of Edinburgh presented Mr S Carter, Director of Trading, Food, with a scroll, recording the award to Waitrose of the Society’s Presidential Award for Design Management.

The John Lewis Partnership trades primarily through its sixteen Department Stores and forty Supermarkets.  The Supermarkets trade under the name of Waitrose.

The supreme purpose of the Partnership is the happiness of its 19,000 memnbers who work in it and share between them the whole of the profit that would normally go to ordinary share holders.  But whatever other ideals we might try to practice commercial success is vital to us, for without it there would be no profit to share and, indeed, no Partnership.
