Before Christmas a chance conversation with the local food bank – to which Eastbourne has donated more than two tonnes of food – led to the branch learning about the Eastbourne Winter Night Shelter.

As a result, the shelter received £1,566 via Community Matters at Christmas.  Between December and the end of February, it provides supervised overnight accommodation for the homeless and  vulnerable, relying on seven local churches opening their halls on a rota basis.

During the past three months, more than 1,000 nights of shelter were given to over 40 people and the charity was able to help 15 to find permanent accommodation.

At the end of last month, the shelter held an event to thank their supporters.
