Distribution Partners help open sensory garden

Distribution Partners gathered at a Primary school in Wokingham last week to attend the official opening of a sensory garden they have been constructing since the winter.

The sensory garden at the Dingley Specialist Children’s Centre, which is built on land that belongs to All Saints Primary School, will offer children with disabilities who attend the centre the chance to see, touch, smell the colourful plants and flowers in the garden and grow their own plants.

Partners volunteered their time to help construct and plant the garden, which took two weeks in total earlier this year.  The offical opening was postponed until last week to wait for the weather to become warmer, explained Ambient Shift Manager Ian Earthy who lead the project.

As part of the community giving, Head Office had donated £2,000 to the centre to buy new equipment and the same amount to build the garden.  The Partners used materials donated by local companies and Longstock  Nursery offered a discount on all their plants and delivered to the centre free of charge.

The idea of building a garden came from now retired Distribution Partner Ian Kemp, whose three-year-old granddaughter, Kelsie, attends the centre.  Ian and his wife donated plants and also a water feature for the garden, which was one of the main attractions to the children on open day.
