Rob, many thanks for your kind offer, a couple of these would be much appreciated. Any anecdotes or stories you may have to share would also be great.

I had worked at the Berkhamsted branch for 22 years starting in 1986 so I have worked in both stores in the town. I do have some photos of the construction of the new branch if you are interested. I may be able to get hold of some photos of the construction of the extention that was built to the new store some years later.

Mary, many thanks for the historical information – most interesting. Do you have any photographs to add to the website?
PS we have corrected the misspelling of Berkhamstead – I agree most peculiar!

Alison, we are very interested in your photograph of the shop and would appreciate it if you would add it to the website for publication.

I have a photograph of the small waitrose in the High Street I believe it is from the early 1960’s if you’re interested?

Hi- You have spelt Berkhamsted in a most peculiar way….”berkshamstead”. There used to be an architects house here, made in a triangle shape with one side glass, so you could peep in. Also site of Lingard’s motors, the tip, and an old derelict cottage. Before that it was the Mantle Factory (clothes), where my nan worked in the 1940’s.
