Blaby 141

Waitrose Blaby 141

On Tuesday 20th October 1970, the Partnership opened it’s 38th Waitrose store in  Blaby, Leicestershire.

In its opening week the new supermarket at Blaby recorded sales below estimate but it nevertheless took 30 percent more than Evington, its companion branch in Leicestershire (just three miles away).
The Gazette (internal magazine) of 31st October 1970 reported that, “It may be that the Waitrose reputation has been strengthened in the district by the very high shop-keeping standards which are being maintained at Evington,

or we may have been helped by the fact that our new branch at Blaby is in the centre of the local shopping district and so has not had to establish its own customer traffic flow.
Whatever the reason, sales at Blaby are very promising.”
