The branch was in the middle of a new and still expanding housing estate in Bracknell and had been long awaited with excitement and anticipation by the residents of several local estates.

The only food shops of any consequence were International Stores and Mac-Fisheries in the Town Centre.

The opening day got off to a good start and kept improving through the day to such an extent that all the roads leading to the shop became blocked with traffic beating a path to the new store.

Eventually the Police came in desperation to ask the Branch Manager to close the doors to give some respite. This request was I believe refused- it probably would have caused more chaos and some short tempers!!

This was my experience on my first day working in Waitrose!
