Driving them quackers

Transport took a walk on the wild side when drivers reported seeing a pair of geese and seven goslings on the Bracknell site behind the Chilled warehouse.

Calls were put through to wildlife agencies as Section Manager Jason Littleford and Chris Lawrie, tried to save the birds from running under the wheels of passing lorries.  However, none of the agencies were able to help them and their fine feathered friends.

That is when driver, Paul Enfissi stepped in to help.  He had originally seen the birds making their way onto a slip road from the A329 to the Bracknell site, when he was driving back from a frozen food delivery to Theale.  He had stopped his lorry and put on warning lights together with other drivers who joined him in shooing the birds off the road.  Shortly after his return to Bracknell he learned that the birds were wadding around causing further chaos and he contacted his daughter for help.

Paul’s daughter, Dr. Eugenia Enfissi, a genetic engineer whose hobby is wildfowl, drove to the rescue with her brother Mario, an environmental studies student who works in the West warehouse.

Eugenia was able to confirm that the ‘geese’ were in fact a variety of ducks called Egyptian Geese because of their unusual eye markings.

A gaggle of Partners, flapping cardboard sheets coaxed the feathered family into a storeroom so Eugenia and Mario could drive them in boxes to the safety of nearby Mill Pond.
