Folkestone helps veterans

Right: Branch Manager Kevin Gilby, outside the branch with two veterans and Sarah Parker branch Admin Manager

Our Folkestone branch has donated £400 to send a Normandy veteran to the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings in June 2004.

The donation will pay the costs of sending one veteran to the Memorial Services and Parades in the town next year.

BM Kelvin Gilby said:  “We decided to help when one of the veterans mentioned to us that the government wasn’t going to fund the trip.  I thought it was ironic that having fought in the war these people were not getting this help.

  • I believe the name on the photo caption should read ‘Sarah Parker’

  • Though the article’s headline is Folkestone we are pretty sure this should read ‘Hythe helps veterans’. Has the branch known locally by another name? Can you help?
