Duncan makes news

Gosport BM Duncan Edwards became a star for a day in the TIMES newspaper last week.  He appeared in an article about careers in retailing.

According to the TIMES, Mr Edwards found that he loved working in supermarkets and now at 26 he is managing a Waitrose supermarket in Gosport, Hampshire, in charge of 110 people and a healthy turnover.

Mr Edwards graduated from Bristol University with a degree in geography in 1996, having done a placement year in a large Waitrose store when he was 21.

He told the TIMES: “I was overwhelmed by it.  At Christmas people would queue outside before opening time and within ten minutes of the doors being opened you would find yourself pinned against the counter by the crowds”.

He loved it and went back to working for Waitrose when he graduated.  He has gone from being Assistant Manager to Manager and a year on from being given his own store, he has increased efficiency there and has helped to improve Waitrose’s instore training.
