Salisbury: cookery workshop

Salisbury Food and Home held a free cookery workshop for 12 young carers from Bournemouth on 7th November 2001.

The young people, aged between 11 and 16, were taught how to make a delicious and cost-effective meal of turkey burgers and cheesecake.

The workshop was held in the branch’s demonstration studio.

Yve Reed, Young Carers Support Worker for Bournemouth Social Services explained: “Our young carers are all caring for a relative with an illness. They often need to prepare meals for their family and it was a comment by one of our young carers that prompted me to approach Waitrose Salisbury”.

Studio tutor Sue Wrigley said: “They were a really good bunch of kids and it was a pleasure showing them how to prepare a simple tasty meal. The meal is quick, nutritious and inexpensive to make”.
