From the Gazette February 2011: Waitrose was one of the first supermarkets to champion local suppliers and its three Jersey shops will sell almost 490 lines from 25 local suppliers. Of those 350 will will be locally or regionally produced products such as vegetables, milk and bread, while the rest will be Portugese, Polish and tobacco lines sourced through local agents.

“Products grown, reared or caught in the islands are important to local people. We held Meet the Supplier events last September and since then have worked with some of the smaller producers and may be able to sell some of their products in our UK shops.”

Local chef and supplier Emma Carlton was in branch on opening day at St Saviour, supporting her own sticky toffee pudding “Waitrose has been very supportive and and its great to work with a supermarket that’s so passionate about good food.”
