In 1994 The Gazette reported that farmers and producers were invited to Leckford to hear about the Aberdeen Angus breed of cattle in a bid to start a cooperative of Angus producers in England, to satisfy the Waitrose demand. The invited farmers were met at the Leckford Dairy by Mr Sadler, Mrs Jenkins and Mr Malcolm Crabtree, MD Leckford Estate. Some had travelled as far afield as Kent and Devon, such was the interest.
Mr Sadler was pleased with the response. “Nearly all of those present showed an interest in learning more about the scheme, and a number of them were very enthusiastic. Farmers are normally a sceptical bunch and to attract this level of interest was encouraging.”
