Regional Distribution Centre

By Linda Moroney

The Brinklow Regional Distribution Centre, operated by Hays plc, was officially opened on 24th March 1993. Situated on the outskirts of Milton Keynes, the warehouse was large enough to accommodate five football pitches, there were 155 miles of electrical cabling around the complex and the internal roads were designed to withstand 20 million journeys of an eight-tonne truck.

As a measure of the importance attached to the project, all Waitrose branch and operations managers, as well as key personnel from Bracknell, were invited to view the building and attend a presentation. A plaque was unveiled by Mr David Felwick, Director of Trading, Food, and Mr Ronnie Frost, Executive Chairman, Hays plc, to commemorate what would be a key element in the Waitrose supply chain initiative. The Partnership's Chairman, Mr Stuart Hampson, was also present.

During their tour around the depot Partners were able to see all the areas where the ambient and chilled products would be stored, as well as perusing the quality-control facility manned by Waitrose Partners.
