Decked for a rally

A PARTY atmosphere set the tone for the Waitrose Jubilee Sailing Rally over the June Bank Holiday weekend.

The 13 crew who set sail on Saturday, 1st June for four days on the Partnership yachts, the Ann Speed and Deborah Anne, faced mixed weather, giving the novice sailors a real challenge.

Mick Brown skippered the Ann Speed with Steve Lyons as Watchleader and Lis Gray skippered the Deborah Anne with Alison Ray as Watchleader and Peter Chapman and Chris Whitehead two competent crew members.

The yachts visited Port Solent, Chichester, West Witterings and Haslar Marina in Portsmouth.  At times they had calm flat seas and had to motor sedately under engine.  However, the conditions were very varied and for a time they had to face a wet and windy force six, with the boats heeled over in very lumpy conditions.
