Herd the news

Waitrose has launched own label goats’ milk which is bottled on our own dairy at the Leckford Estate in Hampshire.

Waitrose Fresh Goats Milk is the result of an exclusive partnership with Willowbrook Farm in Oxfordshire.

The full cream milk is ideal for children, while people who have an intolerance to cow’s milk may find goats’ milk easier to digest.

Ned Walker, who runs Willowbrook Farm, began producing goats’ milk with a 100-strong herd in 1987.  He now has 800 milking goats mainly of the white-coated, British Saanen breed.  They are milked twice each day and fed on a diet largely of grass, maize and cereals.  The herd is also given plenty of straw to ensure they are comfortable and clean.
