Creating Energy

Waitrose marked the opening of its second energy centre this week at our lowest carbon branch to date – Bracknell.

As with our first energy centre at our East Cowes branch, which opened in March this year, the Bracknell energy centre also converts locally-sourced, sustainable woodchip into gas, which is combusted to create heat and electricity to fuel the branch.  It will also create chilled water, which will run the store’s refrigeration system.
