Abergavenny 683: Opening

The second Waitrose branch to open in Wales, Waitrose Abergavenny, opened on 15th July 2004. A former Safeways branch, the new Partners were excited and invigorated by the refurbishment of the branch with the installation of a cafe overlooking mountain views and an entertainment area, a first for Waitrose.

Although the Waitrose name was known in the area, as Waitrose were sponsors of the Abergavenny Food Festival, Partners were looking forward to establishing it further. Section Manager, Steve Hooper, told The Gazette on opening:

Waitrose has transformed this shop. We are pleased to be part of a premier food retailer. Given its enormous potential we are looking forward to establishing it as a flagship Waitrose branch.
