Waitrose Battersea opened on 19/11/2015.

On the 19th November 2015, Waitrose Battersea opened its doors. Branch Manager Ed Caswell watched as his Partners welcomed customers into the store for the first time.

Battersea Partners were recruited using a new way of hiring. The branch has 100 Partners in total, which is 40 less than an equivalent store. This means each Partner works a minimum of 20 hours a week, over three shifts. This will enable Partners to feel more involved as they are in branch more often.

The branch sits on 18,000 square feet of space. It includes meat and fish service counters, a juice bar plus a bakery with an ‘eat in’ area. The branch has an extensive wine department and offers customers services such as click and collect, quick check, dry cleaning and laundry services.

Launched in co-operation with European market leader, Sushi Daily, is the branch’s fresh sushi bar. Skilled sushi artisans freshly prepare customers’ orders taken at the counter.

Customer parking is available beneath the store, in a 138 space underground car park.

One entrance to the branch will pass under a ‘world first’ sky pool. When finished the swimming pool, which is suspended between two buildings, will be 90ft long, 19ft wide and have a water depth of 4ft.

Address: 1 New Union Square, Nine Elms, London SW11 7DN
