Swapping Waitrose for South Africa

Canary Wharf’s Wendy Barron is hanging up her Waitrose uniform to return to her home country, South Africa, and breed descendants of Cape lions.

During a year long career break, the Home Supermarket Assistant will set up a new venture with her sisteer and brother-in-law to breed the Lions.  They are know for black manes that grow down their backs.

“They’ve been disappearing from South Africa since 2000, as they’re being hunted by poachers”, explains Wendy.  “Their look puts them in danger as they’re more likely to be killed for money.

She will be responsible for feeding lion cubs, recording their development and running the farm where they hope to increase the numbers.  “The closest thing I have done to working with animals is living with my cat!.  I’m a bit scare but this will be such an exciting experience”.
