Building work on what would become Waitrose 135 in Saffron Walden started in early 1985. Shown are a selection of photos showing how the area looked both before and during construction.
I only moved to the town when 135 opened so I only know the Branch was built on the site of the old pig market. Most of the pictures above were kindly given to us by the family of Sid Froude a retired Waitrose Partner who lived in Fairycroft road. Sid used to work for Waitrose in London and Partners who worked at 135 in the early days will remember him well.
