The site of Waitrose South Woodford used to be a garage called Gates of Woodford. The garage was on the corner of the North Circular Road & High Road and was known as Gates Corner. The North Circular Road at that location was called Grove Road. When the M11 was built and NCR improvements the NCR was excavated and lowered to enable underpass at Waterworks Corner.
