The sky's the limit

Tell Evie Grogan to take a running jump and she’ll happily do so.  The reason?  The 18 year-old Wellington Customer Service Partner is high jump champion for whom the sky’s the limit.

Evie took up high jumping at school just three years ago and then, at her teacher’s suggestion, she joined a local athletic club.  It didn’t take long for her to reach national standard, coming to the attention of national high jump coach Fayyaz Ahmed who guided Team GB’s Robbie  Grabarz to a bronze medal in the London 2012 Olympic  Games and who is now her mentor.  Her dad is a qualified coach and is now her trainer.

Evie has had her own golden summer, winning two major high jump events; the Aviva England Athletics Under 20’s championships at Bedford in June (where she achieved her personal best of 1.72m) and the Aviva English schools Track and Field Championships in Gateshead in July.  She was also a recipient of a Somerset Sports Award 2012.
