Gazette coverage of Canford Heath opening

Waitrose Canford Heath, near Poole, Dorset, opened at 9.00am on Tuesday 30th June 1970. The branch would include a delicatessen and an off-licence and would be managed by Mr E R Warrington, who had transferred from Hounslow. His deputy, Mr B Barlow was previously the warehouse manager at Chesham. The branch – pocket sized at 5255 square feet opened with fifty-three Partners, most being local residents.

The branch closed on Saturday 24th April 1982, the reason being that the branch didn’t have the space to expand its assortment to meet new competition in its area.

The local Residents and Community Assocation wrote to the manager, Mr R A Farley, thanking the branch for “your help and kindness over the years”.

The branch held a “final fling” on 1 May for working Partners, retired Partners and active Partners from elsewhere who once worked in the branch. It was held at a nearby hotel and Mr Farley was expecting up to 80 people to attend the buffet dance.
