Memories: Waitrose Sheldon, Birmingham

Brummies of Sheldon please say hello.

Anyone who may remember me from the early seventies. I was then Jean Costello, then known as the “branch clerk.” I trained at the Dorking branch office, think it was with a Mrs Hewitt and another lady but I cannot recall her name.  They made sure I addressed them as Mrs (no first names! ), sounds so strange now.

Names from Sheldon branch – Dottie Watt, Bob Wallington, Ken Kent, Stan Matthews, Ethel Cain, Marge Mullins, Pat Holden, Robin Smales, Steve Rowe, Chris Burgess, Mo Connolly, Doreen Finney Martin van Beuren, Pat Fradley, Bruce Symes, Maggie Greenhill.  There are many more names but they are just not coming to me at the moment- anyone  out there who might help? Sadly I know a few of the good good friends named above are no longer with us. RIP. I shall write here again ! Will you? Jeanx

  • Fond memories of 120 where I worked for twelve months as assistant meat manager under Cyril Partridge.
I was then promoted to relief meat manager for the midlands and was then based at 122 Hall Green and eventually took over as meat manager at that store.
I remember most of the partners mentioned by others and worked 34 years for Waitrose.
