Enfield Customer Fulfilment Centre 199

Ahead of the break from Ocado in September 2020, big investments in E-commerce were deemed necessary for Waitrose to remain competitive in the online marketplace with hopes to treble output by the time the partnership with Ocado comes to an end.

Thus, Enfield Customer Fulfillment Centre was born. Opened on 7th May 2020, in the midst of the global Coronavirus pandemic, Enfield quietly came to life. Starting with 4000 customer orders per week, hopes are that this will rise to 13,500, serving a 250 square mile area of North London.  It opened at a particularly important time, with demand for online deliveries above Christmas peak times with 37,469 items picked on the first day alone.

With it’s opening in the middle of a nationwide lockdown, Partners worked to make the building safe for themselves, the Dining Room has tables spaced for social distancing and delivery Partners are encouraged to keep the phrase “let’s do as we say, keep 2 metres away” in mind when out on their deliveries.

The Warehouse itself is larger than a football pitch with access to repairs and refuelling for the fleet of 100 vans, and a clever rain harvesting system installed for keeping the fleet clean and looking it’s best.
