Waitrose Rohais: memories of Opening Day

Memories of Opening in Guernsey by Kay Cochereau

“On opening day the store was absolutely packed.  It was the first shop to open on Guernsey, Admirals Park opened later.  Our takings for the first few days were very good.

I had never seen a Waitrose before and I thought it was a vast improvement on the shop as it was before.  I found it really interesting to see some old products that I hadn’t seen for years like blancmange by Pearce and Duff and the forgotten cuts of meat. The stock assortment was very different and this led to a change in the type of customer who came into the shop and the choice of products really increased”.
