Joyce makes the top ten!

Joyce Webb

Retired Waitrose Partner Joyce Webb, who was one of 60 volunteer workers from the South and South-West region shortlisted as WRVS Diamond Champions (see Connections, November 2012), has been selected as one of 10 regional finalists.

As this issue of Connections went to press, she was getting ready to travel to St James’s Palace in London on 29 November to be presented to The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, joint patrons of the initiative.

WRVS Diamond Champions are people who have made an extraordinary difference to their community by giving up their own time to help others. Joyce, who is 94, has worked as a volunteer with the Red Cross in Bracknell for the past 30 years.

She has helped to keep the equipment, such as wheelchairs and walking trolleys, up to scratch and now helps with the administration in the office one day a week. She also dedicated one morning each week to help the Bracknell Volunteer Car Service, which aims to provide transport for the elderly to get to medical appointments which they would otherwise struggle to attend. Joyce’s loyalty and determination to keep on helping her local Red Cross is remarkable.
