Reading

Our Reading branch is helping the local ambulance service resond more quickily to emergencies, thanks to a Community Matters donation for the First Responder Scheme.

Customers raised £493 via the scheme for the South Centra Ambulance Service (SCAS) NHS Foundation Trusts Tilehurst Community First Responders.

There are around 1,600 SCAS volunteers across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Hampshire.  They are all trained in asic life-saving skills and provide early intervention in life-threatening medical emergencies in local communities.

SCAS’s two Emergency Operation Centres take 1,030 calls a day about emergency situations – 300 of which are potentially life-threatening – so the First Responsers provide an essential service.
