Romsey: healthy eating school-trip

When Waitrose announced the support of the biggest day of volunteering on Friday 17 May 2013, Group A branches were pleased to step up.  As part of Business in the Community, Waitrose Partners across the business were encouraged to volunteer and promote healthy eating with schools.

In Romsey the branch linked up with five local primary schools with over 170 pupils visiting the branch over two sessions.

The schoolchildren were given branch tours and a healthy eating exercise.  The task was to draw a healthy meal, consisting of one main meal, a bowl of fruit and a drink with a £10 budget.  Their fruit bowls had to contain each colour of the rainbow and their main meal had to contain each of the four major food groups.  “The pupils came up with some unique, exciting and healthy recipes,” said SM Adrian Martin.  “It is a project we aim to continue on a yearly basis”.
