A reader of Vintage Roadscene Magazine (Adrian Cypher) has released some images of various Waitrose tractor units and trailers that he photographed at the Lorry Driver of the Year heats at Oxford and Swindon during the 1970/80’s. Each photograph shows how the vehicle types and trailer construction and liveries changed between 1972 and 1982. There are a few more photos, not included here but can be seen in issue 162 May 2013 of VRS, showing Waitrose tractor units hooked up to hired flatbed trailers for the heats giving drivers a better view of the course. Adrian has kindly given permission for these images to be used on the Memory Store and his name is credited to each picture.
