Flying High

Flying High

Partners at Leckford are familiar with Fruit Farm Assistant Colin Pratt’s air of calm as he tends the Estate vineyard or works in our fruit orchards – they also know that this mild-mannered man is a bit of a ‘speed junkie’.

For Colin that means air speed as he is a qualified pilot in Europe and the US, licenced to fly regular aircraft as well as seaplanes, getting his biggest kicks out of acrobatic flying.

Colin who has been working at Leckford for 16 years, received his first flying licence in 2004 having used his Partnership bonus to help towards the cost of learning to fly in the United States.

You have to have a minimum of 45 hours in Europe and the US, and while learning to fly over here could cost £8,000 in the US it’s about £3,000.

You have to do a minimum of 12 hours a year and if you don’t manage to do that you have to spend a minimum of one hour with an instructor.
