South Woodford (231): Opening

Opening on September 28th 1999 and complete with a coffee shop in a Grade II-listed building, South Woodford could be described as a more unique building for a Waitrose! Grove Lodge dates back to 1835 and benefits from a large wooden door, gothic windows and traditional Victorian chimneys. The building was previously derelict and hadn’t been lived in for around 25 years, so the builders had to make it safe enough to survey first, lead by Architect, Mr Cheong-Took. It had taken almost 5 years to identify and acquire the site.
Although English Heritage insisted that some of the original chimney breasts were retained, the construction team were able to open up an inner wall to give access to the Coffee Shop from the selling floor. The second floor of Grove Lodge is house to the Partner’s Dining Room.
The Waitrose itself currently offers a number of fresh counters including: fish, cheese, delicatessen, rotisserie, patisserie, meat, bakery and sushi, as well as an olive bar.
Address: 92-96 High Road, South Woodford, London, Greater London, E18 2NA
