Ruislip (197): Opening

Waitrose Ruislip opened on 16/10/1990.

On the 16th October 1990 Waitrose Ruislip opened its doors to its customers. It was a brand new building and built as a free-standing store, compact and laid out efficiently. The branch has its own 260-space car park and is situated opposite Ruislip underground station.

The branch had the largest fruit and vegetable area for a Waitrose branch in terms of length of fixturing, and it also included a ‘bake-off’ area where part-cooked bread was delivered frozen and finished in the branch so that it could be bought soon after it had left the ovens.

The management team studied the underground timetables to find out when potentially there would be an influx of passengers to the branch as commuters came and went to the station. More than half of the Partners had not worked in a supermarket previously, they learned the roles and also all about the Partnership.
