Wimbledon Alexandra Road (314): Opening

Waitrose Wimbledon Alexandra Road opened on 28/07/2011. 
The opening of Waitrose Wimbledon Alexandra Road saw the third Waitrose branch to open in the London Borough of Merton, following Wimbledon Hill and Raynes Park. Previously a B&Q store, Wimbledon Alexandra Road is a 19,270 sq ft branch and was eagerly awaited by
customers in the area.
The branch created 134 jobs for the local area and the desire to work at the branch was also eagerly pursued as there were more than 2000 applications for roles in the branch. Andy Felton, Head of Retail Operations for the area, commented that there had been issues with the build which had a knock-on effect for work that needed to be completed prior to opening. However, the branch pulled together and completed everything they could, working together superbly in difficult circumstances.
The Leader of Merton Council, Stephen Alambritis, formally opened Wimbledon Alexandra Road.
