Stratford City (328): Opening

Almost 1,000 Partners opened the new John Lewis and Waitrose store in Stratford City on Tuesday September 13th 2011, to a huge crowd.

The shop is part of the Westfield Stratford City Shopping Centre-Europe’s largest urban shopping mall, next to the site of the 2012 Olympic games.

“In the longer term, the development is set to play a major role in the regeneration of one of the capital’s most deprived areas.” As reported in The Partnership’s in-house magazine, The Gazette.

The Chairman at the time, Charlie Mayfield, attended the official opening as well as London Mayor, Boris Johnson, as well as Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales and Lord Coe, Chairman of the London 2012 Organising Committee.

Waitrose branch manager, Baz Naik, reported: “We’d served more than 20,000 customers by Tuesday. They were amazed by the size of the centre.”

Facilities currently available include fresh fish, sushi, patisserie, meat and bakery counters, as well as, click and collect, flower wrapping and dry cleaning.

Address: The Arcade, Westfield Stratford City, London, Greater London, E20 1EH
