Colmore Row: Opening

Waitrose Colmore Row 742 (Little Waitrose) opened on 20th March 2012.

The following article appeared in the Partnership in-house magazine at the time.

Little Waitrose will be making a big impact in Birmingham as the city centre welcomes its first Waitrose to the area. The convenience store at Colmore Row opened its doors on Tuesday 20th March 2012 to customers commuting into the city and who arrive at the branch as they leave Birmingham’s Snow Hill train station.
Partners in the branch have been excited to be a part of the city centre’s first Waitrose. Altogether, the branch had 280 applicants and out of the 37 partners who were employed, 30 are brand new to the Partnership.
Team Manager Rob said ‘All of the Partners have been really excited about working for Waitrose in the city centre. Everyone seems very engaged in the Partnership.’

The Little Waitrose does have competition with a Tesco and Sainsbury located nearby, but Partners think that customers will be pleased to see a Waitrose in the area.

The branch is set in a key location, next to many transport links, offices and Birmingham’s main shopping centre, the Bullring, is only a five minute walk away.
Store Manager Barbara said, ‘We’re located on the business side of Birmingham, but I’m hoping it will be a destination store. The shop looks excellent, and we’ve managed to fit in over 3000 lines. ‘It’s been a great opening. And it’s great being in Birmingham.’
