The start of internet shopping
In 1986 I worked as Peter Falconer’s Assistant who was Director of Buying (1996 to 1998). One day, I was asked to investigate Waitrose setting up a system where customers could buy their groceries through their computer. It seemed totally inconceivable at the time and totally theoretical. The internet was still largely unknown by the general population. Because of my wine background, I was then asked to look at setting up our mail order wine service. What a long way things have come!
